Ghost Hunt

Join us as hosts Spirit Chasers Paranormal UK explore the 240-year-old building where Groundlings Theatre is based – known to be one of the most haunted buildings in Portsmouth and believed to be residence to up to 9 ghosts!   The building has featured on an episode of the hit TV Show ‘Help! My house is haunted’ has played host to a variety of paranormal investigation groups

Groundlings promises a story or two to tell!  Built in 1784 by the Beneficial Society, the building was one of the first free schools for boys and later added girls in 1835. The school was based downstairs while upstairs was used by the Beneficial Society for meetings, theatre and concerts with many notable members. In 1812, Elizabeth Dickens went into labour with Charles Dickens whilst attending a dance in the building. Henry Ayres, who became Premier of South Australia and who Ayres Rock was originally named after, was also a pupil at the school. It operated as a school until 1962. It operated as a school until 1962 when it became a training centre until finally becoming a theatre in 2010.
