Shopping in Portsmouth
Commercial Road is located between Edinburgh Road, near Portsmouth Guildhall and Lake Road, close to Portsmouth and Southsea Railway Station. Commercial Road shopping area also incorporates Cascades Shopping Centre an indoor shopping area and Arundel Street shops.
This area has the wide variety of shops that you would expect in a city centre location, boutiques, music, books, department stores, sports, photographic, banks, building societies and food.
There are frequent bus services to most parts of the city, stopping at Edinburgh Road at the southern end and at Lake Road at the northern end of the shopping area.
The northern end of Commercial Road is regularly used by market traders selling a wide variety of different goods from their stalls.
In the shopping area of Arundel Street, there are a number of sculptured benches, depicting cultural icons of Portsmouth, featuring Sir Arthur Conan Doyle , Sir Marc Brunel and his son Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the maritime painter W.L.Wyllie, Victorian authors Sir Walter Besant and George Meredith and Charles Dickens.
The works were designed by Pete Codling as part of the Arts Council, Art at The Centre project and were conceived in collaboration with local schools and community groups.
The fully enclosed malls offer a weather protected shopping experience with high street retail names such as JJB, Marks & Spencer, H&M, BHS, T K Maxx, Next, The Fragrance Shop, and Primark.
