Over the last nine months the ladies at Padnell Park WI have been engaging their knitting needles to produce this display to honour rememberence day 2024. Our display has been welcomed by St Wilfreds Church Padnell Road Cowplain and is made up of approximately 1200 knitted poppies which includes giving a poppy to everyone that attends the rememberence day service on 10th November.
As well as the poppy lady, the purple horseshoe was made to represent all the animals that were killed in both world wars. The vase at the front of the display is very cleverly constructed and the hand made flowers have been made with cold clay and then varnished. The wheel tells its story through the language of flowers.
However, our whole project would not have been possible without the help of Mike Kendrick who has kindly loaned us the authentic first world war one uniform from his collection.
Our display is currently being displayed at St Wilfreds Church Padnell Road Cowplain and has taken centre stage in their period of rememberence.
